SW20+

SW20+

Here's a view of a Small Wonder Labs SW-20+ transceiver that I built into an old barcode scanner case. I built a 30-segment LED bargraph that simulates a slide-rule tuning dial. Also in this case is one of KD1JV's RockMite Audio Filters (no longer available.)

I had this case for a long time before finding the right project to stuff inside. It was a bit of a challenge to get the SWL20+ in there. The board was about 1/4 inch too long. With some trepidation, I removed a few capacitors from near one edge of the board, and took the PC board to my grinding wheel to "make it fit". After re-attaching the caps near their original locations and adding a few jumpers it worked. Sweet.

Who makes that key? I'd like to get one.

The key shown with this radio is a Mini Hand Key by the German manufacturer, Schurr Morsetasten. Unfortunately, it is no longer manufactured. They do appear on the used market, rarely. -Bruce
