Icom-703 Question
Good Day to all on the list!
I have an Icom-703Plus and I wish to have a cw filter installed so I
have two questions for the group.
1. The closest Icom sevice center to me is the center in Michigan.
Does the group have any expierence with using this center ie quality
of work , product knowledge etc. What do you think?
2. My next question deals with the choice of a filter . Should I choose
the FL-52A 500HZ or the FL-53A 250HZ ? Which would give the best
overall performance on the QRP bands?
Thank you all for your advice

IC-703 filter install
Hi Brad. I see you've gotten some very good advice regarding this topic on the qrp-l list. I would agree with what you have been told. The filter install is not difficult, and the service centers will charge you more than half of the cost of the filter to do it. If you are unsure about doing it yourself, I expect that you should be able to find a more experienced local ham willing to install it for you.
As for the choice of bandwidth, I would suggest either the 500 from Icom or the 400 from Inrad. 250 is often seen as being a bit tight for most use. (others would disagree) As was mentioned to you before, the dual CW/SSB filters from W4RT look to be very good performers.
I currently have a 500 Hz filter in mine, and I like it. I am considering replacing it with one of the dual filters for better SSB performance as well. But, it's not a high priority.
