The Excitement is Building....

WA6YSY

Hi all,

Just relocated from Monterey, CA in April 2007 to Ocean Shores, a small beach town on the West side of Grays Harbor in Washington.

Love to build and experiment. Just built and love the NESCAF. Great circuit; worked immediately. Still haven't put up an antenna...winds here are gusting to 60 Knots as I type. Actually haven't had a lot of time for antennas given the move, completing build-out of the house, and many honey-doo projects. Am currently wondering if a Cobweb will stand the high wind gusts without tearing off a piece of the house or other supports hi, hi.

72/73's for now,

John

Ocean Shores

Welcome, John. A new QTH surrounded by salt water -- you ought to get out alright! I used to think about hamming while exploring the web of roads along that peninsula looking for birds. Damon Point's an all-time favorite spot. Good luck with your antenna project(s).

Wind is the Enemy!

We recently did a Navy transfer from Yokosuka, Japan to Middletown, RI. I put up a 30 meter dipole in the spare room (eleven feet/side square - big squalo) and it works amazingly well on 7 through 18 MHz. Cable TV and QRP make good neighbors.

When the ground dries out a bit and the cursed wind dies down, I can erect a tilted delta loop for 30 meters. Ham radio is verbotten here in military housing, but QRP goes without notice. It's pretty easy to sell the housing cops on the importance of small wires to keep away the geese. There is ocean on three sides within a half mile. I gotta go with it.

Good luck with your new antenna! I look forward to working you and everybody else here. Is there some kind of NEQRP secret handshake on the air?
