KIT Advise
I am back with another question about QRP rig kits. I am not in a real big hurry to get a multiband rig right off. What I would like to do is get a kit that walks you thru the assembly process and explains what you are doing and why! I would really like to learn the in's and out's of an HF rig. I don't want to just put a kit together just to say that I put it together, I want to learn as I go along. I have a basic understanding of the parts and how a radio work in theory but I want to get down to the nitty gritty.
Does anyone know of a kit that has this kind of intricate instructions. I have a 40 meter rig right, what do you suggest for the next radio, 20 meters, 30 meters, 80 meters
160, etc ????????
I am curious on what QRP'ers would recommend, seeing how as you have had more experience with kits than I.

NC2030
The NC2030 is a COMPLETELY different animal. It can be rather difficult to gather the parts for this rig, using only the partial kit currently from NorCal. The 2030 has a QSD (quadrature sampling detector), rather than a superhet RX. There are very nice documents available on the NorCal site that explain the rig and it's theory.
Rig theory / construction
The excellent Elmer 101 course was provided to walk people through the construction and understanding of the SWL-40+ rig. The info can be found at:

Although this is geared toward the 40M version of the Small Wonder Labs radio, the exact same principles are used for the SWL20+. I would suggest that downloading this material, and using it as a reference while building a SWL20+, would be a great way to learn about the theory while building. At this time, I would probably go with a 20 or 80M rig, given that you have something for 40M. With spring coming into it's own, and the inevitable rising noise levels on 80M that brings, I would lean toward 20M for your next effort.
Many thanks for the advise .
Many thanks for the advise . I will look into each one and then go from there. I will let you know on which way I decide to go.

NorCal 40 manual
Dave Rutledge's The Electronics of Radio takes you through the construction of the NorCal 40.
You could get the NorCal 40A and convert it to 30 m.
I don't know how similar the NC2030 is to the '40, but that might be another way to go.
